The Art of the Stack: How to Layer Your Gemstone Rings

The Art of the Stack: How to Layer Your Gemstone Rings

There are no rules in jewelry, only expressions of who you are. One of our favourite ways to celebrate individuality at Zaira Jewels is through the "art of the stack." Whether you’re mixing metals or layering vibrant stones, a ring stack is a curated look that evolves with you.

Not sure where to start? Here is our guide to building a balanced, sophisticated stack using our 18k gold vermeil rings.

1. Start with a "Hero" Stone

Every great stack needs a focal point. We recommend starting with one of our natural gemstone rings as your "Hero" piece.

A vibrant emerald ring or a glowing moonstone provides the colour palette for the rest of your stack. Place your largest or most colourful stone on your middle or ring finger to anchor the look.

2. Play with Texture and Band Widths

To avoid a stack looking too "heavy," vary the textures. Pair a smooth, polished band with a textured or twisted one. Mixing different widths—like a delicate thin band next to a bolder setting—adds visual interest and prevents the rings from blending into one single block of metal.

3. Mixing Your Metals

In 2026, the old rule of "never mix silver and gold" is officially over. We love the modern, edgy look of pairing 925 sterling silver with our signature gold vermeil. The contrast highlights the brilliance of the natural stones and makes your stack feel more effortless and "undone".

4. The "Odd Number" Rule

When in doubt, stick to odd numbers. Stacking three rings usually feels more balanced to the eye than two. You can stack them all on one finger for a statement look, or spread them across three fingers (index, middle, and ring) for a "spanning" stack that feels balanced and light.

5. Leave Room to Breathe

You don't need to fill every finger. Often, leaving your thumb or pinky bare allows your hand-crafted jewelry to truly stand out.
